A painted door finish is only as good as its preparation. We clean off grease and fingerprints, sand glossy or flaking areas, fill dents and chips, and prime where needed before applying finish coats. Hardware such as handles and hinges is removed or masked so paint lines are crisp. Doors are also left to dry flat or upright in a clean area to avoid dust settling.
Material matters. Wooden doors accept paint well, while laminated, veneered or metal doors may need specific primers to bond properly. Some factory-finished surfaces are not suitable for repainting, and we will say so honestly. Entrance doors exposed to sun may need extra attention to the outer face. Coloured or glossy doors may need a bonding primer before the new finish will hold well.
Doors can be sprayed off-site or painted in place, depending on the finish expected and what is practical in your home. Spray gives a smoother look but needs more protection and ventilation. Painting in place is simpler for single doors. We advise on the best method after seeing the doors.
