Overview
Cove lighting hides the light source in a recess so only the glow shows, softening a room and highlighting the ceiling. It suits living rooms, bedrooms and hospitality spaces where atmosphere is important.
A cove is a shallow ledge or recess, typically around the perimeter of a dropped ceiling, with a light strip hidden inside. The depth, width and distance from the wall decide how the light spreads across the ceiling. Too shallow and the strip shows; too deep and the ceiling loses height. We set these dimensions out on site rather than guessing.
Light colour and dimming affect the mood. Warmer tones usually suit living and sleeping areas, while neutral tones may suit offices and shops. Dimmable systems let you adjust the setting. Heat and wiring access are also considered, so the strip can be maintained or replaced without damaging the ceiling. We also discuss whether you want a single colour temperature or a system that can be changed later.
Cove ceilings need a dropped section, so room height must allow it. In apartments and offices, ceiling changes may require approval from building management, which the customer should check.
