Preparation includes cleaning, repairing cracks and checking that the surface is sound and dry enough for application. Surfaces are then coated in the manner suited to the system chosen, building up protection against rain, humidity and splashes.
A coating cannot cure an active leak. Rising damp, pipe leaks, failed sealants, poor drainage or cracks in structure all need their cause investigated first, which may involve a plumber, waterproofing contractor or building management. Painting over a leak traps moisture and often leads to blistering and peeling. A specialist survey may be recommended where the source of moisture is unclear or the damage is extensive.
Where the wall is sound and the issue is exposure rather than a leak, a waterproof coating can be a sensible protective measure. We discuss colours, sheen levels and any decorative finishes you are considering.
Floors, furniture and fittings are covered and edges are masked.
Cracks and holes are filled, surfaces sanded and primed as required.
Paint is applied in even coats with drying time respected between coats.
Masking is removed, touch-ups are completed and the area is cleaned.
